Stress urinary incontinence
If you notice urine leak when you cough, sneeze, laugh, or exercise, it may be a sign of stress urinary incontinence. It’s more common than you think, with around 1 in 3 women affected at some point in their lives.
Symptoms of stress urinary incontinence
Stress urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine during everyday activities such as running, coughing or sneezing. This occurs when the pelvic floor muscles and tissues that support the bladder aren’t able to withstand sudden increases in pressure. For some people this means just a few drops; for others, leakage can be more significant and disruptive. It is often linked to pregnancy and childbirth, peri and postmenopause, pelvic floor weakness or tightness, or previous pelvic surgery. Beyond the physical symptoms, it can limit exercise, affect intimacy, and make social situations feel more challenging. This leaves many people feeling as though they’ve lost a sense of freedom in daily life.
Treatments for stress urinary incontinence
At Lift and Revive, we take a holistic, physiotherapy-led approach to help you regain control and confidence.
Your treatment may include:
Pelvic health physiotherapy to assess and retrain pelvic floor function, optimise bladder habits, and address posture, breathing, and movement patterns that contribute to symptoms.
Lifestyle and behavioural strategies to support long-term bladder health.
Advanced, non-surgical technologies such as the Emsella chair (which strengthens the pelvic floor through electromagnetic stimulation) and FormaV or Morpheus8V (which enhance tissue tone and elasticity).
These evidence-based treatments can be used alone or in combination, depending on your needs. We’ll always take time to discuss your goals and create a tailored plan that feels right for you. We're here to help you move, laugh, and live with confidence again.
