Painful intercourse
Pain during intercourse, known as dyspareunia, can have many causes and often affects both physical comfort and emotional wellbeing. While it’s a sensitive topic, it’s important to know that support and treatment are available.
Symptoms of painful intercourse
Pain may occur at the vaginal opening (superficial or entry dyspareunia) or deeper in the pelvic region (deep dyspareunia). Symptoms can include burning, aching, or sharp pain during penetration, or lingering discomfort after sex. Possible contributing factors include vaginal dryness, vulvovaginal atrophy, pelvic floor overactivity or spasm, endometriosis, scar tissue, infections, and other causes
Treatments for painful intercourse
At Lift and Revive, we take a physiotherapy-led, holistic approach to the treatment of painful intercourse, with the aim of restoring comfort, function, and confidence in intimacy.
Your plan may include:
Pelvic health physiotherapy to release tension, improve muscle coordination, and promote relaxation.
Internal manual therapy and guided use of vaginal dilators to aid desensitisation and comfort.
Education, lifestyle strategies, and home exercises to support ongoing recovery.
Advanced, non-surgical technologies such as FormaV or Morpheus8V, which may help optimise tissue health, hydration, and elasticity.
While the advanced technology treatments are not specifically designed for dyspareunia, some women may notice improvement when tissue health is optimised. Each plan is tailored to your needs, with the goal of achieving lasting, pain-free intimacy and renewed confidence.
